Heparin/Pitkin menstruum has been advocated in the therapy of a variety of thromboembolic disorders. The clinical properties of two such mixtures each with and without vasoconstrictor agents is evaluated and it is demonstrated that a significant prolongation of the clotting time beyond 24 hours cannot be obtained. A comparison between the one tube and the three tube methods for the determination of the coagulation time of blood reveals that both procedures yield comparable data.
