Correction

Table 3Down (page 949) of the article "Mortality after 16 years for participants randomized to the Multiple Risk Factor Intervention Trial" (Circulation. 1996;94:946-951.) contains some calculation errors. In columns three and four, the correct numbers of participants who experienced nonfatal cardiovascular events during the trial are 1271 (19.8%) and 1506 (23.4%) for the special intervention (SI) and usual care (UC) groups, respectively. The correct numbers of participants who did not experience a nonfatal cardiovascular event are 5157 (80.2%) and 4932 (76.6%) for the SI and UC groups, respectively. These changes affect the relative risk of SI to UC for experiencing a nonfatal event as calculated by proportional hazards models. The relative risk reported on page 949 should be 0.82, with 95% confidence limits of 0.76 to 0.88. A corrected version of Table 3Down is as follows.
