A faculty committee investigating the scientific integrity of Dr S.-M. Yu at Chang-Gung Medical College concluded that parts of this article contained identical or nearly identical results to those published in Molecular Pharmacology (1996;50:10001009), but that the results were purportedly obtained with different chemicals (ATP in Molecular Pharmacology and norepinephrine in Circulation). Based on our conclusion that at least some of the data in this article have been fabricated, we are regrettably unable to verify that the conclusions in this study are correct, and we wish to retract the article. We deeply regret this unfortunate situation, which has potentially misled the readers of this journal.
